Trade Policy
What You Need to Know
  • We don’t buy books.
  • We don’t trade book for book.
  • All purchases are at least half cash (even if your store credit will cover the entire cost of the book).
  • Not all books in the store are trade-able; some are marked NT (no trade credit applied at purchase).
  • We reserve the right to refuse any book due to condition, supply (inventory), content, and other reasons we may consider at the time.
  • Our quality books are generally priced in the ½ price range with some marked higher due to condition, high demand, collectability, and availability. We are NOT a thrift store so do not expect us to reduce our established prices to those levels.
  • No book sells for less than $2.00, even if trade-able.
  • Credit card purchases must be $5 or more.

Trading Policy
When trading books, your book credit will be applied to only ½ of your trade-able used book purchase.  Half of your purchase must be in cash (checks and credit cards also accepted).  Any remaining credit will be recorded on your account to be applied to future qualified purchases.  Category restrictions will still apply (see below). Categories are used to protect the inventory of each genre. You must have credit in the category to apply credit to a purchase.

Book credit cannot be used toward any item marked as NT (see below), new items, local author items, and special orders or redeemed for cash. You are limited to the amount of books you can bring in at one time: two sacks or boxes or one crate (one time per week).

Main Book Categories (watch for following codes on price label; must have credit in category for purchase credit)
  • Paranormal (PN)
  • Special Authors: (author’s initials); list can change on demand; Ex:  LL, JE, SK, DK, RP, JDR, JLB, EK, LC, etc.
  • Inspirational Fiction (IF)
  • Science Fiction/Fantasy (SF)
  • Non-Fiction (NF)
  • Fiction (F)
  • Romance (R)– credit can only be applied to small romances (Ex: Harlequins, Silhouette)
  • Trade Credit Not Applied to Purchase (NT) - all customers pay the ticket price shown on book

Paperback Books
We give up to ¼ of the retail paperback price on any paperback that we accept.  We may not take all books brought in for trade credit.  In order to assure our customers they are buying quality used books, books may be refused for one or more of the following reasons:
  • Condition of book (damaged, such as spine broken and/or loose pages, soiled, odorous, torn, water damaged, written/highlighted in, etc.)
  • Overstock in that title
  • Space available
  • Subject matter
  • Currency of topic

Hardback Books
Generally, we give trade credit up to ½ of what we will price the book to sell.  Hardbacks are also subject to category restrictions, but hardback trade credit can be applied to both hardbacks and paperbacks.  Hardback books must have their dust jacket and in very good condition, if they originally came with one. Typically, full-size fiction hardbacks are priced starting at 30% of the original list price (ex: a $25 book may be marked $7.50 and you can receive up to $3.75 for credit).
  • Non-fiction hardbacks are priced starting at 50%. Credit can be up to 50% of the selling price, depending on condition, subject matter, and relevancy. We will not accept books that have been written or highlighted in or missing the dust jacket, if they originally came with one.
  • Book Club Editions: we are currently NOT accepting book club editions unless they are very current releases (and the regular hardback has not been released), a high demand title, or excellent condition vintage editions.

Special Author Category Books
Some books, due to collectability, can have trade credit applied only if books of like kind are brought in.  This ensures that we have a good selection of high demand books.  The current list includes: C.J. Box, Janet Evanovich, J.D. Robb, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Louis L’Amour, Elmer Kelton, Jodi Thomas, Lee Child, etc. (non-inclusive; list subject to change).

Non-tradable Books
Some books may be marked N.T. on the sticker.  This means trade credit cannot be used on these books at the time of purchase.  These books may be current releases, high demand, low supply, collectible and/or vintage, mint condition (like-new), or maybe we have purchased the book to have it available. However, the prices usually reflect a discount and books may be returned for credit as long as the book is still in acceptable condition.

Movies (DVD/BluRay)
Vinyl Records (45/33)
Music on CDs
We sell and accept the above items but only if they are not scratched and are in excellent condition with cases or album covers also in very good condition. Items will be assessed for acceptance. Fiction credit is given for these items that can be used on applicable book purchases. These items are typically marked as NT (no trade credit given on purchase) but a small discount may be applied, if possible.

Audio Books

We no longer accept CD audio books; however, we still have a great selection of books on CD at discount prices!

Other Information
We do not typically trade children's books unless they are in mint condition with no writing. We will assess the condition and need for these books at the time they are brought in by the customer. Most young adult and children's books are marked with NT, meaning they are not on the trade program.

We do not accept magazines, National Geographic magazines, book club editions (see paragraph on BCEs), previous library editions or discards, magazines, out-of-date material, such as technology or older medical books, or adult material.

We DO LOVE treasures--not trash! We will look at any books brought into the store for credit except those that have been treated as trash, have been in the outside storage building for years and are musty, water damaged, etc., or have provided pets with a place to sleep. We are not experts on rare or out-of-print books and, therefore, do not evaluate books for the public.
